The Welder Position
As a Welder you are responsible to assemble metal assemblies and joining them together according to specifications and following all safety policies. To use appropriate tools for the task (ex. igniting the torch, clamping down pieces) and joining and lining up all pieces of the project as specified. (Please see attached the Classification Grid requirements noting the salary eligibility for each criteria level)
Roles and Responsibilities
- Reading blueprints and drawings and taking measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Setting up components for welding according to specifications
- Choose appropriate tools for the task
- Operate angle grinders and other tools to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using clamp pieces, straight edge and square levels
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Follow all health and safety procedures
- Identifying hazards or potential hazards
- Other job duties as required
Requirements and Skills
- Certification as a Welder or in the process of an apprenticeship program is required
- Proven experience as a welder or in a similar role
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, level etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Attention to detail
- Work effectively in different environments
- Able to communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and in teams
Equipment & Machinery Experience:
- Angle grinder
- Mig welding
- Flux welding
Work Schedule (44 hours/week)
Monday's-Thursday's - 7am-5pm
Friday's - 7am-1pm
