Northwaters & Langskib is excited to invite passionate individuals to apply for the role of Assistant Trip Leader for the summer 2025 season. This is an amazing opportunity to learn from experienced Trip Leaders and be part of a supportive team while guiding youth on 9-to-19-day canoe expeditions in the beautiful Temagami backcountry. As an Assistant Trip Leader, you will play a key role in helping youth develop confidence, leadership skills, and a deep connection to the outdoors.
What We’re Looking For
- At least one season of experience in backcountry canoe tripping, including extended expeditions (20+ days) ideal
- Certification in Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA)
- A passion for working with youth and helping them build teamwork, leadership, and self-reliance skills.
- Ability to embrace learning, receive feedback, and grow within a supportive team environment.
- Positive, adaptable attitude and a willingness to work in challenging outdoor settings.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a focus on safety and community building.
- A commitment to Leave No Trace principles and respect for the natural environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Apprentice under the guidance of Trip Leaders, supporting the planning, leadership, and execution of multiday canoe expeditions.
- Teach and model outdoor skills such as canoeing, campfire cooking, map reading, backcountry navigation, and Leave No Trace practices.
- Facilitate team-building activities and group discussions to help participants develop leadership skills, trust, and confidence.
- Assist with trip logistics, including meal preparation, equipment care, and other pre-trip, in-field, and post-trip duties.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all participants, providing support and encouragement in remote environments.
Contract Details
- Preferred start date: June 19, 2025
- Duration: June 19 – August 19, 2025 (potential to extend through September 30).
